Earlier in 2025, I had the opportunity to set up my own temporary studio for 6 weeks on the Caribbean island of Carriacou (Near Grenada).
It is a beautiful spot on the beach, tranquil and remote. The nearest village is 90 minutes walk away along a muddy track.
The accommodation was rustic but comfy.
For company, I had Nina the pony, some naughty goats, and chickens. At night, small, bothersome bats would flap around inside the hut looking for food.
The intense daylight of the Caribbean and the colours of the buildings and nature are very inspirational.
I took time to enrol on an online art course run by Nicholas Wilton of Art2Life – the course was terrific, and it taught me just how much I don’t know about abstract art!
Whilst the time I spent on retreat in the hut was primarily for learning and receiving coaching, I was also able to produce some pieces which I have brought home and had stretched over wooden frames.
I’m very tempted to return and repeat, although there is a strong voice in my head urging me to do something new and different next time.
